A Light in the Darkness

The Hoan Bridge means many things to many people, including physical access and symbolic connectivity. However, for some who have been touched by mental illness or suicide, it may be a symbol of grief or loss.

Reading the nearly 2,000 bulb dedications at Lightthehoan.com inspires us, moves us and reminds us every day of the incredible connection our community has to this city and to one another. Since the beginning of this venture, we wanted Light the Hoan to be about more than just lights on a bridge. Over the last two years, we’ve connected this project to job creation, STEM education, non-profit support and, now, mental health awareness.

For all of our friends and supporters who have been touched by suicide, including the family and colleagues of former Milwaukee Police Officer Thomas Kline, we mourn with you. For all of those feeling hopeless, we hope we can help you see that there’s light.
